Score by Ernest Troost
Ernest Troost composed the film's initial score, crafting a blues‑influenced rock theme for Val and Earl and a separate Graboids theme, but much of his material was later replaced. Robert Folk was brought in to write about 30–40 minutes of new, broader, action‑oriented music; Troost ultimately received sole screen credit per contract amid a dispute.
Movie trivia
-
1
Tremors was Ron Underwood's feature directorial debut, with the screenplay credited to S. S. Wilson and Brent Maddock from a story by Wilson, Maddock, and Underwood.
-
2
S. S. Wilson originated the central image while hiking near gunnery ranges at a naval base in the Mojave, and the writers intentionally framed the film as a modern variation on 1950s monster movies featuring ordinary protagonists and no stated origin for the Graboids.
-
3
Production designer Ivo Cristante spent two months constructing the town of Perfection near Olancha, California, building a market, paved street, telephone poles, houses and a large rock formation used in the climax; Lone Pine was chosen for its Sierra Nevada and Alabama Hills backdrop.

Creature effects were realized practically by Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. of Amalgamated Dynamics, who built large puppet heads, mechanical tentacles, miniatures and matte effects so the Graboids could be shown convincingly in broad daylight; Robert and Dennis Skotak provided additional miniature and visual effects.
-
5
Reba McEntire made her acting debut in the film, postponing her honeymoon and commuting from weekend concert tours to reach early morning calls; for a late running scene her firearm was replaced with a wooden prop to make it easier to carry.

The project carried several titles during development: the original script title Beneath Perfection, a working title Land Sharks (dropped after Saturday Night Live popularized the Land Shark), and it briefly carried the alternate title Dead Silence.
