Soundtrack

Score by Tyler Bates

Composer Tyler Bates began work in July 2005; the score, featuring vocals by Azam Ali and heavy low percussion, was recorded at Abbey Road. Standard and special 25-track soundtrack editions were released on March 6, 2007. Warner Bros. later acknowledged that several cues were derived from Elliot Goldenthal's score for Titus and the matter was amicably resolved.

Movie trivia

  • 1

300 is a film adaptation of the 1998 Dark Horse Comics limited series by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley; Zack Snyder co-wrote the screenplay with Kurt Johnstad and Michael B. Gordon.

  • 2

Michael Fassbender appears in the film in his film debut.

  • 3

300 was shot mostly on bluescreens at the now-defunct Icestorm Studios in Montreal over sixty days in chronological order on a $60 million budget; only one scene was filmed outdoors.

  • 4

Snyder framed the story through the Spartan soldier Dilios as an unreliable narrator to justify the film's surreal, fantastical elements and he added a subplot in which Queen Gorgo attempts to rally support for Leonidas.

  • 5

Post-production filled more than 1,500 visual-effects shots and used a color-manipulation process dubbed The Crush; the work employed Maya, RenderMan and RealFlow, lasted a year and involved ten special-effects companies.

  • 6

Two months of pre-production produced hundreds of shields, spears and swords (some recycled from Troy and Alexander), an animatronic wolf and thirteen animatronic horses, about 600 costumes and extensive prosthetics; actors trained with the stuntmen and Snyder joined in.
