About Bring It On
"May the best moves win."
The Toro cheerleading squad from Rancho Carne High School in San Diego has got spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that's sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. But for newly-elected team captain Torrance, the Toros' road to total cheer glory takes a shady turn when she discovers that their perfectly-choreographed routines were in fact stolen.

Movie trivia
-
1
Writer Jessica Bendinger originally pitched the story as Cheer Fever, describing it as a blend of Clueless and Strictly Ballroom set at the national high school cheerleading championships and combining her love of hip hop and cheerleading.
-
2
Bendinger drew the film's depiction of cultural appropriation from her experiences as a white writer covering hip hop artists at Spin, which led her to imagine a top squad that had been stealing routines from another team.
-
3
Bendinger's pitch was passed over 28 times before Beacon Pictures agreed to produce the film.
-
4
Peyton Reed required all actors to participate in a four-week cheerleading camp and expected auditioning actors to have a cheer prepared so stunt doubles would not be needed.
-
5
James Franco and Jason Schwartzman both auditioned for the role of Cliff Pantone; Kirsten Dunst initially turned down Torrance Shipman and Marley Shelton was the second choice but opted to star in Sugar & Spice instead.
-
6
While editing, director Peyton Reed and editor Larry Bock watched 1970s cheerleading exploitation films; the montage clip of dance inspiration is from Sweet Charity, and most scenes were shot around San Diego County and San Diego State University using local high school squads as extras.
