Soundtrack

Score by John Powell

The official soundtrack was released December 4, 2007 and includes tracks such as The Pogues' 'Love You Till the End', James Blunt's 'Same Mistake', and 'Kisses and Cake' credited to John Powell. Several songs featured in the film—'Fairytale of New York', 'Galway Girl' (performed in-film by Gerard Butler, Nancy Davis and Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and Butler's 'Mustang Sally'—do not appear on the album; the Japanese release uses Hideaki Tokunaga's 'Chiisana Inori' as its theme.

Production was shot on location in New York City and County Wicklow, Ireland; the Wicklow pub music scenes were filmed at Whelan's in Dublin.

  • 4

The film received generally negative reviews—critics targeted Swank's casting and the writing—but it was nevertheless a box-office success.

  • 5

Irish reviewers were particularly critical of Gerard Butler's Irish accent, and Butler later jokingly apologized for his poor effort.

  • 6

Dialogue between Harry Connick Jr.'s and Hilary Swank's characters inspired Reba McEntire's 2011 single 'Somebody's Chelsea'.
