About Field of Dreams
"All his life, Ray Kinsella was searching for his dreams. Then one day, his dreams came looking for him."
Ray Kinsella is an Iowa farmer who hears a mysterious voice telling him to turn his cornfield into a baseball diamond. He does, but the voice's directions don't stop -- even after the spirits of deceased ballplayers turn up to play.

Field of Dreams received three Academy Award nominations—Best Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Adapted Screenplay—and in 2017 was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Score by James Horner
Leonard Bernstein was the first choice, but James Horner accepted after watching a rough cut and crafted an atmospheric, quiet score inspired by the temp track; Horner's score was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score (losing to The Little Mermaid). Portions of pop songs also appear in the film's closing credits, including "Crazy", "Daydream", and "Jessica".

20th Century Fox repeatedly turned down the adaptation and put it into turnaround; Universal accepted the project in 1987 and USC coach Rod Dedeaux advised the production, bringing World Series champion Don Buford to coach the actors.

The production initially shot under the novel's title Shoeless Joe, but an executive decision renamed the film Field of Dreams—a change director Phil Alden Robinson disliked; W. P. Kinsella said his original title had been The Dream Field.

The identity of the uncredited 'The Voice' that speaks to Ray remains unconfirmed; some speculated Costner or Liotta, while Kinsella said he was told it was Ed Harris.

Kevin Costner insisted that Ray should hit the ball into the ground rather than miss on purpose in the scene with his father, a change he suggested to Phil Alden Robinson and the only alteration Costner made to the script.

Shooting the final headlights shot became a community event: production estimated it required 1,500 cars, local extras drove their vehicles from town, radio broadcasts relayed the director's instructions, and drivers were told to alternate low and high beams to simulate movement.
