  • 4

The film grossed roughly $552 million worldwide, became the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2004, and its four-day Memorial Day opening of $85,807,341 held the natural-disaster opening-weekend record for twenty years until 2024.

Destruction of New York was built from a 13-block LIDAR-scanned 3D model of Manhattan using over 50,000 scanned photographs for textures; some storm-surge shots required up to three vendors and digital water from Digital Domain or Tweak Films, and miniatures were used for a later underwater bus scene.
